It can become very easy to constantly think of the things that are weighing us down: I don’t make enough money, I don’t have any strong friendships, I struggle in romantic relationships, my family is toxic, I’m unhappy with my living environment, I’m not reaching my goals. These persistent negative thoughts can drag us down day by day. According to a study done by the National Science Foundation, approximately 80% of our daily thoughts are negative. We judge ourselves and others, regret moments from our past, cultivate victim mentalities and come up with fictional cynical scenarios. Imagine how hard it is to get through every day with these negative thoughts looming in the background.
What if you flipped the narrative in your mind? What if, regardless of your situation, you decided that you are so incredibly lucky? And what if you lived in gratitude instead of fear, envy and loathing? This is a manifestation technique called the Lucky Girl Syndrome. Of course, you can apply this approach regardless of your gender. Lucky Girl Syndrome is the constant act of changing your pessimistic thoughts to thoughts of gratitude. Regardless of your external situation, you can change your life just by changing your internal conversations.
As you begin, you will need to regularly remind yourself to make the change. Try to apply it to every single negative thought because there is a positive side to everything. Here’s an example of how to start your day using the Lucky Girl Syndrome technique: you wake up in the morning and usually think “oh god, I don’t want to wake up and face this awful day, give me 5 more minutes.” When that thought arises, think of what could go right instead of what could, and perhaps often does, go wrong. You then say to yourself “I am so lucky for this new day, a fresh opportunity for me. I am such a lucky person, who know what great things can happen today. I’m going to make this day the best it can be.” Then you look in the mirror and think “wow I am unhappy with what I see in the mirror because of xyz.” Change that thought to what you like about what you see, it can be something you like about your physical appearance or something like “I am so lucky to have a strong body that gets me through every day.”
Regardless of where you are in your life, you are lucky for so many reasons. Find your gratitude in every situation, even if you have to dig a bit to find it. It is a constant practice that takes time to turn into an unconscious habit. Let your gratitude bring you back to your center and watch your life change. Even if nothing in your external environment initially changes in a large way, the way you will feel going through life will completely shift. The way you show up in the world will begin to impact your future and everyone you come in contact with. The more you start to practice this on a daily basis, the more your thoughts are switching from negative to positive. Keep doing this with every thought until the positive thoughts of gratitude come automatically. Is it delusional to think you are the luckiest person in the world? No. Because you have control over the way the rest of your life unfolds and knowing how to take control of that power makes you the luckiest person to you.
Next, you want to start expressing this method in your external environment. Start living the way you are thinking. If you think you are capable of making anything happen, live fearlessly in your actions towards your goals. If you believe that you are charming and competent, that will help you walk through life radiating with confidence.
You are not a slave to your reality, you are the CEO of your life and YOU get to choose what reality you live in.
